With Coconut Bayou on one side and Roberts Bay on the other, Roberts Point is definitely one of the best places to live in Siesta Key. An established neighborhood, with lots of tall trees providing shade and privacy, this friendly neighborhood is perfect for boaters. Located on a peninsula and accessed from Higel Ave. in North Siesta Key, the community has a secluded and private feel. Most of the home of the homes here are luxury, waterfront properties with private boat docks. A few of the properties at the narrowest point of the peninsula are even lucky enough to have waterfront on two sides.
Siesta Key Redevelopment Opportunities
As one of the earlier parts of Siesta key to be developed, in recent years a number of the original, smaller homes have been bought and torn down, to be replaced by modern luxury homes. If you are looking to build your own home, you will still find a few of these redevelopment opportunities. And of course, if you are looking for something move-in ready, you’ll find elegant homes, typically with their own swimming pool, on lots that can be up to a half acre.
Take A Trip To Edwards Island Park
So, what is there to do in the area? Well, one thing we can recommend is paddling across to Edwards Island Park. Accessible only by boat, the Edwards Islands are spoil islands that were created in the mid-1960s when Roberts Bay was dredged. Consisting of Big Edward and Little Edward, the islands make a great daytrip. One of the attractions of park is the way the mangroves, Brazilian Peppers and the Australian Pines have created an enormous canopy, which means it’s a wonderful, shady place for picnicking and walking the islands’ trails. The shade also makes the park a popular fishing spot and if nothing is biting there are often dolphins around that you can watch. While technically there is no camping allowed in the park, it’s such a peaceful place you can imagine people must be tempted.
Enjoying The Natural Views
The islands provide natural views for residents of North Siesta Key and city plans to restore the islands by removing non-native species has been the subject of controversy. The tall Australian Pines and the Brazilian Peppers are some of those species that would be removed, which would result in a dramatic change to the views from Siesta Key. Residents of the area have fought the changes though, so it seems that the views and the islands will remain in their current state for some time to come.
