The results are in! In a survey completed by the U.S. Census Bureau last week, Turns out Manatee County ranks among 100 of the fastest growing counties in the United States.
With a population increase from 385,450 as of July 1, 2017, to 394,855 a year later, Manatee made the bureau’s list of the country’s 100 fastest growing counties — its 2.4% increase of 9,405 newcomers putting it in the 100th slot.
By comparison, Sarasota County’s population grew from 419,689 in mid-year 2017 to 426,831 by the summer of 2018, an increase of 7,029 or 1.7%.
For those unfamiliar Manatee County, According to the Manatee County Chamber of Commerce, there are 11 distinct areas.
- Anna Maria – This 7-mile-long stretch along the Gulf of Mexico is home to about 1,800 people.
- Bradenton – This city is the largest city in the county with almost 54,000 residents.
- Bradenton Beach – Located on the southern tip of Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach has about 1,200 residents.
- Cortez – Cortez sits along Sarasota Bay and has a population of more than 4,200.
- Ellenton – Located south of the Skyway bridge, almost 4,300 individuals call Ellenton home.
- Holmes Beach – Approximately 4,300 people live along the 3 miles of pristine shores south of Anna Maria.
- Lakewood Ranch – This 17,500-acre community with a population of 11,261 has won numerous awards for its beauty and master planning.
- Longboat Key – This town of more than 7,000 is situated on over 11 miles of beachfront in both Manatee and Sarasota counties.
- Myakka City – Located in southeastern Manatee County, Myakka is home to a population of 5,223.
- Palmetto – Nestled between Bradenton and St. Petersburg, Palmetto is Manatee County’s second-largest city, with more than 14,000 residents.
- Parrish – With a population of 22,984, Parrish is located east of 75 between Tampa and Sarasota.
